Egypt : Explosion near bank in Mahala kills 1 citizen and 1 policeman, injures 16

The device exploded shortly after midnight Friday; four injured in critical condition

A policeman was killed in the early hours of Saturday when an explosive device detonated on Shokry Al-Qawatly street in the city of Mahala in the central Delta.

The explosion, which took place near Dubai Al-Itihad Al-Watani bank, left 16 others injured, according to the ministry of health.

The injuries ranged from burns to bruises and leg amputation.

Four of the injured were in a critical condition.

Egypt has been witnessing a mounting wave of bomb attacks reportedly by Islamist militants that has killed and injured hundreds, mainly of police and army forces.

Attacks have spiked in the capital and nationwide since the ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Morsi in 2013.

A blast in front of Cairo’s High Court on Monday left two civilians killed and nine others, mostly policemen, injured.
