جزر فارو ، هي مجموعة جزر تقع بين البحر النرويجي و شمال المحيط الأطلسي، في منتصف المسافة بين النرويج وآيسلندا.

عاصمتها “تروسهافن”، و لغاتها الرسميه الفاروئية و الدنماركية.

وتبلغ مساحتها 1,399 كم مربع، وعدد سكانها حوالي 47 ألف نسمة، وتقسم إلى 34 بلدية.

يتمتع سكانها بالحكم الذاتي، ويتبعون إدارياً للتاج الدنماركي.

وتتميز هذه الجزيرة بطبيعتها الخلابة، ومبانيها الساحرة، فضلاً عن الهدوء الذي يجعلها مقصداً للسائحين أكثر من أي وقت مضى.

أسطح المنازل في جزر فارو مغطاة بالعشب، وقد بنيت على هذا الطراز منذ أكثر من ألف سنة، للحماية من الأمطار، فضلاً عن دورها في العزل الحراري، وهذا الطراز المعماري أصبح بمثابة رمز للجزيرة.

وتتصل الجزر بواسطة أنفاق تحت الماء، ولكن الحياة تتصف بالتعقيد، نظراً لصعوبة التنقل في أنحاء الجزيرة، كما أن المشهد الهادئ يعكس شيئاً من الرتابة والوحدة، الأمر الذي يدفع الشباب إلى السفر للخارج بهدف الدراسة.
