Three soldiers and one army officer have been killed in an explosion at 11:40AM, announced Egypt’s Military spokesperson.

According to the military, a roadside bomb struck a military vehicle as it passed by, killing four individuals onboard. The deaths came as Egypt marks the 1952 revolution, also known as the July 23 revolution.

The attack is a latest in a string of similar incidents since the ouster of former President Mohammed Morsi in July 2013.

In the most recent operations, three soldiers and 59 militants, reportedly affiliated with Ansar Bait Al-Maqdis, were killed.

On July 1, 100 militants and 17 soldiers were killed in one of the largest-scale attacks waged against military locations on July 1.

IS-affiliated Ansar Bait Al-Maqdis (Sinai Province) attacked nearly a dozen security checkpoints in the North Sinai region.

Multiple civilians, including one who was killed by militants after refusing to allow them to use his rooftop as a location for a sniper, were also reported killed in the attacks.
