[Announcement] The Egyptian Presidential elections and possibly constitutional referendum will possibly start in the next three months. In the Parliamentary elections there were only 20,604 who registered to vote, out of which less than 15,000 actually voted, with a total of about 13,700 correct and counted votes. These votes came out of an estimated 500,000 or more Egyptians in the US! It is true our community faced major issues and challenges in the voting process including issues in the registration process, the availability of the site, the requirement of the National ID Card (not just the number) to have been issued before September 27, 2011, awareness within the community, lack of familiarity with candidates, and tight timeline and voting deadlines always corresponding with major holidays.
Most important, we were caught by surprise not knowing if Egyptians abroad will be allowed to vote or not, and not knowing if the votes can be sent by mail or not. Now we have a clearer (not concrete yet) idea of what the voting process will look like, we also know that the Presidential and possibly constitutional voting process will happen sometime in the next three to six months.
ARE WE READY?
We are starting an initiative to prepare for an awareness campaign and a coordinated effort to get Egyptians in the US to participate in the coming elections. This campaign does not promote a particular Presidential candidate, but rather targets a major increase in the numbers registering to vote and the actual correct vote count.
We need volunteers and participants from all cities across the US who has access to Egyptians through their friends, colleagues, mosques, churches, organizations, etc…
Please email us @ Egyptiansintheus@gmail.com if interested to participate

Registration for Egyptians abroad to vote in the presidential elections will close in early April. Please register and inform others if you have not done so yet.
