Viktor Svyatskiy, a 'political consultant' for activist group FEMEN, was severely beaten in Kiev on Wednesday night. Viktor's jaw was broken, several teeth knocked out, and his face was heavily swollen and covered in bruises as a result of the attack.
He is currently being treated in a local hospital.
FEMEN leader Anna Gutsol claimed that 'hooligans could not have been responsible' and hypothesized that the beating was the work of 'professionals'. She named the 'SBU, KGB, and FSB' as likely culprits, indicating that their intention may have been to 'scare the movement' ahead of the arrival of Orthodox Patriarch Kirill, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Belarussian President Aleksander Lukashenko to the 1025th anniversary of the adoption of Christianity in Kievan Rus.
FEMEN have engaged in high profile topless protests for women's rights and other social issues. Notably, FEMEN have gone topless in front of many European leaders, including Putin, former Italian President Silvio Burlesconi, French President Francoise Hollande, and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
