The Turkish police tried to cover up the death of a 22 year old protester. The police claimed that Ahmet Atakan was on a roof trying to damage a solar panel, but numerous photographs and eye witnesses disprove the police's version of events.
Ahmet Atakan was actually shot with a police teargas canister in the head at close range while protesting. Numerous family members and concerned friends rushed to the hospital. The police told Ahmet's family and friends that he was alive in order to make them leave, all the while the police knew that in fact Ahmet dead. When Ahmet Atakan's family and friends refused to leave the hospital, the police pepper-sprayed them.
Several weeks ago, Ahmet Atakan wrote on his facebook profile:
"At this time of the night, I think about Ali and his family, and Abullah and his family. My heart burns, I cannot stop it. That is why I stand tall when facing the oppressors. My consciousness is filled with honor, my heart is like a lion. People who should be ashamed are the ones who do not care or claim the fallen ones as their own."
Ali and Abdullah also were protesters killed by Turkish police.
"Resist my friend, do not leave us." - comment left on Ahmet Atakan's profile late last night.
