بدأت العاصمة البرازيلية ريو دي جانيرو الاستعداد لأضخم مهرجان في أمريكا الجنوبي والعالم، حيث تتفرغ المدينة الواقعة على المحيط الأطلسي لمدّة أسبوع للاحتفالات الكثيفة والاستعراضات الشّعبيّة التي تجوب الشّوارع ليل نهار.

وتعتبر ريو عاصمة الكرنفال العالميّة؛ حيث تُقام فيها أكبر المهرجانات وأكثرها إبداعًا والمتجلّية بالرّقص والأزياء والموسيقى التي تقودها مدارس السّامبا، إذ تنظّم مسيرات رسميّة ليشاهدها الجمهور، وسط تنافس شديد بين مدارس تلك الرقصة البرازيلية الأشهر والتي التصق اسمها بالبرازيل حتى بات اسمها "بلاد السامبا".

وتجذب المدينة ملايين الزائرين من مختلف المدن البرازيلية وأنحاء العالم. وكرنفال 2015 سيقام ككل عام في شهر فبراير وتحديدًا بين 13 و18 من الشهر.

ويرقص آلاف الأشخاص في الشوار وهم "مرتدون ملابس تنكرية وملونة وأزياء غريبة "، ويقام المهرجان في أرجاء البلاد وخصوصا في باهيا دي سلفادور وريسيفي وساو باولو، عاصمة البرازيل الاقتصادية.
