بابا الفاتيكان أكد أن هناك حدودا لحرية التعبير ،وهو في طريقه إلى الفلبين، ولكنه قال أيضا إنه «لا يمكنك إهانة إيمان الآخرين».

تعليق البابا جاء بعد الهجوم على مجلة «شارلي إيبدو» وهو على متن الطائرة من سريلانكا إلى الفلبين، مؤكداً أنه لا يمكن السخرية من إيمان أي شخص وحرية التعبير يجب أن تكون لها حدود، فحرية التعبير حق أساسي من حقوق الإنسان، لكن لكل ديانة كرامتها.

وسئل البابا عن الهجوم على «شارلي إيبدو» الذي أدى لقتل 12 شخصا، فأجاب: «لا يمكن للمرء استفزاز آخر وإهانة دينه وإيمانه، لا يمكن أبدا السخرية من الدين وإيمان الأشخاص الآخرين، ولكل دين كرامته، وحرية التعبير لها حدود».

وأضاف البابا أن «صديقي البرتوجاسباري الذي ينظم رحلات البابوية، وكان يقف بجانبه، يقول كلمة تهين والدتي، فحينها يمكن أن نتوقع أن يأخذ لكمة وسيكون أمرا طبيعيا لاستفزازه، مشددا على أنه لا يمكن السخرية من إيمان الآخرين».
