Zaha Hadid's Opus Tower for Dubai is modelled on what might happen to an ice cube left out in the summer midday sun.
With the start of spring, we thought about re-discovering some the upcoming projects in the Middle East that holds the inspiration of nature as its base. And although sustainability is at the core of most architectural proposals of late, with nature-inspired architecture, sustainability is even more at the fore front.
Sustainable and green design has been at the forefront of architectural projects for the past few years and the trend only seems to grow bigger.
Hand-in-hand with sustainability, comes the growth of more “green” projects including various types of vegetation, designs inspired by natural topologies and even structures shaped like elements from nature, like Zaha Hadid’s Opus Tower in the form of a melting ice cube.
Here we present to 11 nature-inspired projects including a new pedestrian city in Saudi Arabia surrounded by date palms, Kuwait’s Foster + Partners’-designed International Airport, DAMAC’s latest forest development called AKOYA Oxygen, Doha’s mega-zoo project, the Heart of Europe masterplan in Dubai, the new meditation-style development by Indigo Properties in Dubai called Indigo Zen, a valley-shaped mixed-use complex called “Zeytinburnu City” in Istanbul, Dubai’s mega-project the Mall of the World, and lastly, the Al Fayah Park launched for Abu Dhabi.
