من شدة تأثرها بفيلم ديزني حورية البحر "ليتل مرميد"، دخلت أمريكية عندما كانت في الثامنة في مدرسة لتعليم الغوص كالحوريات، لتكون الخطوة لأولى نحو تحقيق حلمها.

شكل هوس أندريا ليغوري في أن تصبح حورية بحر حقيقية الدافع الذي جعلها تواظب على تمرينات الغوص بذيل اصطناعي، وتتقن أداء الحيل المذهلة داخل ملابس عروسة البحر حتى تمكنت عندما بلغت 19 عاماً من الفوز بلقب أفضل مؤدية لعرض عروسة البحر على مستوى العالم.

وبحسب صحيفة ديلي ميل البريطانية، انتقلت أندريا إلى مدينة ويكي واتشي بولاية فلوريدا، والشهيرة بمدينة "حوريات البحر"، وكان هذا المكان بمثابة انطلاقة لها لتصبح أشهر عروسة بحر في العالم.

واليوم، لم تعد حورية البحر مجرد حلم بالنسبة لها، بل تحول إلى وظيفة تعيشها يومياً أمام السياح الذي يتوافدون من كل أنحاء العالم لمشاهدة عروضها في الغوص كالحوريات .
