Ministry : Roadside bomb kills two police officers in North #Sinai

The attack occurred shortly after 11 civilians, including children, were killed in a missile attack in Sheikh Zuweid

A roadside bomb has struck a passing armoured vehicle in Egypt's restive North Sinai, killing two police officers, the interior ministry has said.

Three other policemen were injured in the attack late on Wednesday on a motorway in the provincial capital of Al-Arish.

The attack came shortly after 11 civilians, including six children, were killed when a missile landed on a house in the south of the North Sinai town of Sheikh Zuweid.

Egypt's army is fighting an Islamist insurrection based in the northern part of Sinai Peninsula, which has heightened since the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi in July 2013.

The violence has mainly targeted security forces, killing hundreds in the past 19 months.

Last week, 16 Egyptian soldiers were killed in attacks using rocket propelled grenades on several checkpoints in North Sinai, according to the army.

It was the deadliest assault since a series of attacks by jihadist fighters in January targeted security forces with rockets and car bombs in Al-Arish, killing at least 30, including civilians.
