U.S. attorney general: the trial of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed accused of September 11 bombing will not be transferred to New York - المحامي العام الأمريكي: محاكمة خالد الشيخ محمد المتهم بتفجير 11 سبتمبر لن تنقل إلى نيويورك

قال المحامي العام الأمريكي أريك هولدر، إن نجاح محاكمة سليمان أبي غيث صهر أسامة بن لادن والمتحدث باسم تنظيم القاعدة في نيويورك لا تعني نقل محاكمة خالد الشيخ محمد المتهم بالتخطيط لهجمات 11 سبتمبر إلى محكمة مدنية في نيويورك، مؤكدًا أن الوقت أصبح متأخرًا لإعادة النظر في قرار محاكمة محمد أمام محكمة عسكرية، على الرغم من إيمانه بأن محكمة مانهاتن بنيويورك، بالقرب من مكان الهجمات التي خطط لها هو المكان الأنسب.

وأضاف هولدر، في مؤتمر صحفي، أن الحكم الذي صدر بالسجن مدى الحياة على صهر بن لادن أثبت بشكل قاطع أن مثل تلك المحاكمات يمكن عقدها بأمان في مدينة مثل نيويورك، كما هو الحال في أي مكان أخر بالولايات المتحدة.

وكان هولدر قد أعلن عن محاكمة خالد الشيخ محمد أمام محكمة مانهاتن عام 2009 إلا أنه تراجع عن قراره في أبريل 2011 وسط تزايد المعارضة السياسية وضغوط مسئولين عن المدينة بزعم أن المحاكمة ستضر باقتصاد المدينة كما أنها ستتطلب مئات الملايين من الدولارات لتوفير إجراءات الأمن لحماية المحاكمة.

The U.S. attorney general Eric Holder said, the success of the trial Suleiman Abu Ghaith relative of  Osama bin Laden and al Qaeda spokesman in New York, does not mean the transfer of the trial of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, accused of plotting the Sept. 11 attacks to a civilian court in New York ,

 stressing that the time is too late to reconsider the decision Mohammed trial before a military court , despite his belief that the Court of Manhattan , New York , near the scene of the attacks planned is the most appropriate place .

Holder said to the press conference , that the verdict of life imprisonment on the relative of bin Laden proved conclusively that such trials may be held safely in a city like New York , as is the case in any other place in the United States .

Holder has announced that the trial of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed before a court of Manhattan in 2009 , but he reversed his decision in April 2011 amid growing political opposition and pressure are responsible for the city , claiming that the trial would hurt the economy of the city as it would require hundreds of millions of dollars to provide security measures for the protection of the trial.
